The Negranza Family
Homeschooling
As many of you know, we have made the decision to homeschool our children. You may never have thought about it, but if you have kids you are homeschooling them, too! The truth is that most of what our little ones learn is learned at home. It was under your guidance that they learned to walk and talk, right? We have felt that God is leading us to continue in this vein. We believe that each family is ultimately responsible for the education of their children, whether they provide it themselves or not, and should therefore have the right to choose where this education should take place. As for us, we have now completed our eighth year of homeschooling as most people would define it, but in reality we are in our fifteenth, as we are now in our fifteenth year of parenting!
Next year will be one full of changes for us as we send a child off to school for the first time! Julia will be attending the local public high school per her request and after much prayer. We'd appreciate your continued prayers for her as she goes on this new adventure, as well as for the rest of us as we continue on our own adventure here at home.
As to homeschooling methods, we experimented with "unschooling" but found that this wasn't a good fit for our family. We have used the Sonlight Curriculum and now are happily settled with Christian Cottage unit studies.
In addition to the above we are using Math-U-see, Learning Language Arts Through Literature, and expect to try Apologia science next year. We are excited to be planning another year of learning together!
